My oldest daughter loves to draw mermaids. The other day she drew our entire family as mermaids. Even our dog, Beasley, had a fin. I laughed out loud when I realized she sketched me holding a book entitled, “How to Love Your Mer-Self.”
Our children hold up mirrors to us.
I hugged and thanked her for drawing me with such a wonderful book to read. She smiled and said she knows what I like.
James Allen was right.
Once I discovered this quote from his book, “As a Man Thinketh”, I wrote it down on an index card to keep in my office. A gentle reminder for when I start to feel stressed out, frustrated or like I’m not where I want to be:
“He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass. Environment is but his looking glass.”
I’m not always able to keep the self-doubt at bay, but I work at it. I’m not always able to remain calm when chaos strikes, but I work at it.
Lately I’ve been making progress. I’m happier and I know what I’m feeling internally was clearly mirrored back to me by my daughter’s picture. She sees me filling myself with positive messages, positive beliefs and working at having a positive life.
Tell me, how would your child draw you? What book would they draw you holding? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
