Q: What happens when you squeeze an orange?
A: You get orange juice.
Seems obvious, right?
In this video, from a series the girls and I created called, “KIDLOSOPHY: love hard, change the world” we talk about what happens when WE get squeezed.
As it pertains to the orange, no matter WHO squeezes it or HOW you squeeze it, what comes out is what’s inside. So the real question is what’s inside YOU?
You can’t give away what you don’t have.
You can’t give love away if you don’t have any love for yourself. You cannot show respect for others if you don’t have respect for yourself. If you have a huge inventory of self-love and self-respect, you can give love and respect to others, much like the orange giving orange juice when it’s squeezed.
It’s what’s on the inside that counts.
So the next time you get squeezed, what’s going to come out? It’s a choice to let love and acceptance come out when you’re squeezed at the red light when you’re running late. Maybe laughter will come out the next time you’re squeezed with the wrong order placed in your to-go bag and you discover it only after you’re halfway home. (Speaking from experience in both instances…)
I want to know what happens when you share this with your kids! What examples of getting squeezed can you share with them where something unexpected came out of you? Maybe it was joy or maybe it was frustration and you needed to address it? I’d love to hear.
Grab a coffee and let’s start a conversation in the comments.
